Prepay Nation Establishes Partnership with Claro Jamaica
Premier Jamaican telecom provider launches International Mobile Top Up service through Prepay Nation’s North American retail locations
February 4th, 2011 – Prepay Nation, one of the fastest growing providers of instant account refills for international prepaid mobile operators, has announced a strategic alliance with Jamaica’s biggest 3G network, Claro Jamaica. The partnership will provide the significant and growing Jamaican immigrant community in the US and Canada with access to instant International Mobile Top Up (IMTU) service through Prepay Nation’s retail distribution network, allowing them to refill the airtime of prepaid mobile phones on the Claro Jamaica mobile network.
Claro Jamaica is a subsidiary of América Móvil, which was spun out of Mexico’s Telmex in September 2000. América Móvil is the third-largest phone network operating in the world, with more than 200 million customers, representing a substantial segment of the rapidly growing Jamaican telecom marketplace. “Mobile use in Jamaica is pervasive and is perhaps the most visible aspect of expansion in Jamaica’s telecommunication market,” said the Honorable Minister Daryl Vaz, of the Office of the Prime Minister. “The mobile ecosystem is vital to growth in the Jamaican economy.” Claro Jamaica is the fastest growing mobile provider in the nation, providing a range of voice and data services on its expanding 3G network.
Latoy Williams, Media Manager of Claro Jamaica, hailed the partnership, calling it a much-desired service within Jamaican diaspora communities. “Claro’s partnership with Prepay Nation will offer a variety of distribution locations and options for the overseas relatives of our subscribers,” Williams said. Prepay Nation offers an array of prepaid mobile sales options at their over 150,000 retail locations, allowing Claro Jamaica to expand their offerings throughout North America. Claro Jamaica also offers its customers very attractive promotional pricing, like the current offer of 1000 minutes for JMD$999 to call family and friends in the US, UK and Canada.
Jessica Bishop, VP of PrePay Nation is confident that the expanded services in Jamaica will enable Jamaican immigrants and expatriates to provide cost-effective communication access for their family and friends. “Our retail network and user-friendly platform make this partnership a natural development in the enhancement of the services Prepay Nation provides in 23 countries around the world,” Bishop said. “We are delighted that Claro will leverage our assets to bring greater value to its subscribers.”
Claro Jamaica was launched as rebranding the heritage of the MiPhone network. Oceanic Digital Jamaica Limited (ODJ) is a wholly owned subsidiary of América Móvil, the largest phone network in the Americas, and as of October 2008 provides service under the Claro name. They have built a 3G GSM/UMTS/HSDPA network which they continue to expand. América Móvil, which was spun out of Mexico’s Telmex in September 2000, is the third largest phone network operating in the world, serving more than 200 million customers with state-of-the-art products and a range of quality services.
